Our flagship Magento e-Commerce site Latex, Leather and Lace has this week been improved even further with the introduction of full site SSL encryption and a site wide Full Page Cache (FPC)
Magento SSL Encryption
Like many e-Commerce sites Latex Lace had used Trustwave SSL Encryption on it’s checkout and member account areas almost since it’s inception, however having previously dabbled with full site SSL encryption it has taken us until now to get the implementation 100% right.
Why Full Site SSL?
There are number of reasons for implementing site wide SSL, and they are not all technical ones, firstly and most importantly for the customers, customers want to feel safe, especially when browsing or purchasing from a website which is by it’s very nature a little alternative, so side wide SSL encryption helps to make the customer feel safe and secure.
Technically site wide SSL offers much better protection to both the website and the consumer, and it also allows the website to pass unchallenged through many content filters (which again is a bonus for sites of this nature).
Google has since 2014 held site wide SSL up as a ranking factor (although a small one). and we have to do whatever we can to rank as highly as we can, it is expected that Google will increasingly rank SSL secured sites and pages over those that are not secured.
Magento Full Page Cache
Working with our partners we have implemented Fishpig’s Bolt Full Page Cache module within Magento, Fishpig’s Bolt FPC module is a highly developed FPC module which has been in use for a number of years within the Magento community, and as usual the support from Fishpig on all their modules was exceptional.
